Our Rooms

At Woodland House, every room is designed to be a nurturing, inspiring and inclusive space where children feel truly seen, heard, and celebrated for who they are.

All of our rooms follow the same consistent daily routine, built around providing children with security, freedom, and choice.
Each morning, we gather for our morning circle where children are invited (if they wish) to join in our affirmations — “I am Smart, I am Strong, I am Loved” — and sing our much-loved “I Love My Body” song. This time also gives us the opportunity to talk about the day ahead, setting a calm, positive tone.

We have carefully embraced the Communication Friendly Environments approach across the nursery. This means our spaces are thoughtfully designed to promote communication at every level — whether children are speaking verbally, using gestures, or exploring alternative ways of expressing themselves.
Throughout the day, we use Makaton signs alongside verbal language, ensuring all children can communicate in a way that suits them best. This is further supported through our weekly Sing and Sign sessions with our specialist teacher, Brooke — making communication both accessible and joyful for everyone.

Outdoor learning is an essential part of our everyday life. Children have the freedom to move between indoor and outdoor spaces as they choose, meaning they can follow their interests naturally — whether that’s messy play outside, imaginative role play indoors, or a bit of both!
Every child also enjoys a dedicated Nature Learning session each week in our bespoke Outdoor Learning Cabin, giving them structured opportunities for adventure, exploration, and learning in the natural world.

Our rooms are carefully arranged into separate areas of learning to support all aspects of children’s development. You’ll find:

• Calming spaces for self-regulation and co-regulation, where children can retreat and reset when needed.

• Vibrant playrooms filled with open-ended resources and equipment that promote social interaction, physical development, and imaginative exploration.

• Creative areas for art, construction, and messy play — allowing children to express themselves freely.

• Adult-led learning spaces that are shaped around children’s individual interests, strengths, and learning styles.

Every child at Woodland House is seen as a unique individual.

We tailor our environment, support, and experiences to meet each child’s needs and aspirations. Whether a child thrives through hands-on exploration, quiet reflection, high-energy play or focused group activities, we adapt and respond to ensure they feel empowered, valued and understood.

One of the highlights of our setting is our dedicated Library Space — a beautiful, calming environment where children can relax, explore, and develop a love of books. Here, they can immerse themselves in a wide range of high-quality books, from captivating stories and classic favourites to non-fiction and topic books that spark new interests and broaden horizons. Our library is designed to nurture a genuine passion for reading, storytelling, and lifelong learning.

At Woodland House, every part of our environment, routine, and curriculum is crafted with one goal in mind: to help each child grow into a confident, capable, and compassionate individual — ready to take on the world in their own wonderful way.
